The 2017 Shropshire Hills Fell Race Summer Series starts soon with the Caradoc Classic race, an ever popular Wednesday evening attraction for off road runners.
Thanks to everyone who supported the High Sports 'Celebrating Shropshire' competition as part of the HS Winter Lecture Series 2016/17. A stunning variety of entries from a locally inspired folk song & music, poem, films & photographs, art & sculpture were all presented & displayed at the final night of the series The Local Spot on Tues 7th March. All were winners for the quality of entries but the audience judged on their favourite three:
1st place went to Pat Novelli for her poignant yet beautiful film ‘Healing Hills’.
2nd place went to Chris Roberts & Ian Langstaff for a very entertaining and nostalgic song called “My Dad helped put up the pole on the Lawley”.
3rd place was an impressive wire-sculpted fox by Declan Roberts, foxy currently takes pride of place in the High Sports shop main window display, it’s well worth visiting Shrewsbury to have a look.
But as they say "It's not about the winning but being there" and it was a wonderfully spirited & inspiring community event to remember; from free beer & local spring water kindly donate by Salopian Brewery and Wenlock Spring to HS complimentary traditional Shropshire fidget pie, cheese, Shrewsbury biscuits and home made Callow Hill carrot cake and 3 fantastic presentations by local adventurers: Ed Booth (Med Rock climbing), Mike Watton (Ascent of Mt. Blanc) and Dave Bateson (www.uphilldowndale.com Coast to Coast running).
Thanks also to Patagonia & Rab clothing for helping to also sponsor the event and series. All donations on the night and profits from the whole winter series go to local charities and the YM fund.
