The HIGH SPORTS WINTER LECTURE SERIES starts annually in November and ends in March. It takes place usually on the first Tuesday of every month at the Gateway Centre in Shrewsbury, Shropshire and includes four or more lectures from speakers in various fields related to outdoor activities finishing with a lecture from local speakers. The full line up of speakers will be announced nearer the time but as with previous years we aim to present a unique array of the finest lectures available.

This is the awesome line up for the inspirational High Sports Winter Lectures Series 2012/13

  • Tue 6th Nov 2012  Johnny Dawes
  • Tue 4th Dec 2012  Mark Hines
  • Tue 8th Jan 2013  Nick Bullock
  • Tue 5th Feb 2013 Gary Gibson
  • Tue 5th Mar 2013 LOCAL SPOT

Tickets for this event are now available both in the shop and online.

If you’re on our mailing list you’re likely to find out about it first – please get tickets as soon as possible as our lectures always sell out quickly and we do have to turn people away on the door due to capacity restrictions at the venue.

It’s not a race but an individual challenge. Not for the faint hearted.

50 Miles & 5,000ft of ascent & descent !

Riders will be expected to have a fully roadworthy bike, helmet, necessary repair kit, food and clothing. Individual starts. Each rider will be given the route description only minutes before departure and expected to pass through checkpoints on-route (also drink stops). A completion time of 4.5 hours will be the target to qualify for a free exclusive Killer Loop T shirt, which can also be bought after the event if you take longer. Highway Code rules apply at all times and all riders are responsible for their own actions to the bitter end!

Minimum age 16

The High Sports KILLER LOOP usually takes place on a Sunday in July – a 50mile/5,000ft of ascent bike challenge through the stunningly beautiful Shropshire hills following tarmac lanes and roads starting from a different place each year and riders not knowing the route until minutes before departure. Final proceeds from the event allowed us to make a double charity donation; half to the Youngsters in the Mountains fund and the other half to the Shropshire Hospice.

The first Killer Loop took place on the last weekend of July 2008 and was very popular among the entrants despite a blisteringly hot day. As a result we’re running another one this year! Same start, Minsterley Village hall, but another new, gruelling and yet outstandingly scenic route through the Shropshire hills via back lanes and roads. For more information, the 2008 event results and a mountain of images go here.
